Spray systems in the metallurgical industry, including pickling, rolling, cooling, descaling, and dust suppression. It discusses the advantages of different types of nozzles under actual working conditions, demonstrating how they can effectively improve product quality and reduce energy consumption in the metallurgical industry.
Applications

1. Pickling process
In steel production, pickling is an essential step for removing surface oxide scales. Pickling nozzles are typically crafted from corrosion-resistant materials, such as 316SS, to ensure durability and consistent spray performance. The proper arrangement of spray pipes and nozzles guarantees uniform coverage, increases pickling efficiency and minimises acid consumption.
2. High-Pressure Water Descaling
In hot rolling mills, high-pressure water descaling systems use flat fan nozzles to deliver the strong impact forces needed to effectively remove iron oxide scales from steel surfaces. The wear resistance, spray angle and flow rate accuracy of these nozzles are critical to achieving smooth, clean surfaces.
3. Roll cooling and lubrication
During rolling operations, the high temperatures generated by the rolls require efficient cooling. Full cone nozzles are widely used to provide uniform cooling and prevent thermal deformation of the rolls. Controlled spraying also ensures lubrication, reduces friction and improves product precision.
4. Continuous casting cooling
In the continuous casting process, spray cooling directly affects the quality of the solidification of steel billets. Fine mist and air atomising nozzles provide a controlled, uniform spray, reducing cracks and segregation issues while ensuring an optimal metallurgical structure and strength.
5. Dust Suppression and Environmental Applications
Large amounts of dust and fumes are generated in metallurgical plants. Spray systems equipped with atomising or ultrasonic nozzles effectively capture airborne particles, reducing dust concentration and improving workplace air quality. This helps manufacturers to meet environmental regulations and create safer working conditions
